Father’s Day is coming! Take some time to show your your father (or any other dads you know) just how special he is with some words from Scripture. Here is a collection of Bible verses for Father’s Day to bless and encourage your own dad, or any other fathers that you know.
The Bible is clear that a man who follows God is a blessing to his children. I love how in Joshua 24:15, Joshua himself reminds us that we all serve someone, and we must choose whether that is God or an idol. The father who helps his family direct their lives towards God, instead of following the world, is a special blessing.
The Bible is also full of encouragement for fathers to build a right relationship with God (“righteousness” = right relationship with God), to be strong and courageous, and to trust God to protect and guide them.
So choose your favourite verse to encourage your own father or other dads in your life. These Bible verses are great to use in Father’s Day cards, on social media, or anywhere else where you want to share some encouragement from Scripture.
[Note: all Bible verses are taken from the NIV translation, unless otherwise stated.]

Bible Verses for Father’s Day
These Bible verses about fathers and children make excellent verses to share on Father’s Day.
“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
who greatly delights in his commandments!
His offspring will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house,
and his righteousness endures forever.
Light dawns in the darkness for the upright;
he is gracious, merciful, and righteous.
It is well with the man who deals generously and lends;
who conducts his affairs with justice.
For the righteous will never be moved;
he will be remembered forever.
He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.
His heart is steady; he will not be afraid,
until he looks in triumph on his adversaries.” – Psalm 112:1-8 (ESV)
“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” -Proverbs 20:7 (NKJV)
“Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.” – Proverbs 14:26
“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court.” – Psalm 127:3-5
“The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.” – Proverbs 23:24
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
Inspiring Bible Verses for Father’s Day
These Bible verses aren’t explicitly about fathers, but they are great verses to inspire and encourage on Father’s Day (and every day).
“The LORD bless you and keep your; the LORD make his face shine upon you…and give you peace.” – Numbers 6:24-26
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” – Deuteronomy 6:6-9
“But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” – Joshua 24:15
“Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.” – Deuteronomy 1:29-31
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13
“Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” – Proverbs 10:9
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13
