This easy creation craft for kids lets you talk about Genesis 1 with your littles while they exercise their creative muscle. It is also a great Bible craft for Sunday school when you're talking about creation.
When we did this Bible craft, we talked about how God created the world and all the things in it. The kids created their fish tank and put things in it that they thought the fish would enjoy (like seaweed).
When I asked one twin what his favourite thing is that God created he said "dessert". (Of course.) Then we talked about whether fish would eat seaweed or rocks for dessert. (Rocks? Ouch!)
Fish Tank Creation Craft: How To
This creation craft is super simple and relies largely on the art supplies you have laying around.
Materials we used:
- paper
- white glue
- fish templates (download them here)
- markers
- glitter glue
- sequins
- construction paper (for making seaweed and rocks)
Have your fish tanks ready for the kids (I just drew a big black rectangle on a piece of paper) and let them create with the supplies. Ask them what they think their fish would like in their tanks.
The littles might need help cutting out the fish and the seaweed. Mine did all of their own gluing and colouring.
How to Turn this Creation Craft into a Bible Lesson
This is a great opportunity to talk about Genesis 1 and how God created all things in the world.
You can ask your kids: If you brought home a goldfish, how would you set up the aquarium? What colour gravel would you use for the bottom? What plants would you use? Would you give your goldfish a place to hide?
That's what God did for us when he created our world. He made mountains, rivers, trees, and everything else (including dessert!).
If your kids will sit still long enough, read Genesis 1:1-2.

Use these fish to decorate your tank (or make your own fish!). My kids had fun colouring the fish in patterns that they thought would make the fish happy.
