This fun and simple Nativity left right game makes a great party game to teach the story of Jesus’ birth. We are using this game as part of our worship at Messy Church this year. You can use this game to teach the true meaning of Christmas in a fun and interactive way. This is perfect for youth groups, Sunday School, children’s church, as a classroom game, at family Christmas parties, as a homeschool activity, or anywhere else!
This story begins with the angel Gabriel appearing to Mary, and hits on all the key point of the Christmas story: an angel telling Joseph that the baby is from the Holy Spirit and that he should still marry Mary, Mary and Joseph’s trip to Bethlehem, Jesus’ birth in a stable, the angels’ appearance to the shepherds, and the wise men bringing gifts and going home a different way. That makes this fun Christmas party game a teaching resource as well! It works for children of all ages (and adults as well!) and for people who are familiar with the story of Jesus’ birth and those who are not.

How to Play
- Have a small gift or prize ready and wrapped up. This could be a small Christmas gift, a children’s devotional or other faith building resource, a small treat, or anything else that you want. We used chocolate coins (those gold coins that are chocolate inside) because it is thematically appropriate (one of the gifts that the wise men brought to Jesus was gold!), it is small, and it is something that can be shared.
- Have all the players sit in a circle.
- As you tell the story, players must pass the package around the circle everytime they hear “left”, “right”, or “across”. For “left”, pass one player to the left. For “right”, pass one player to the right. For “across”, pass the package across the circle.
- At the end of the story, the person holding the package wins! (They get to keep whatever is inside.)
