We did this tape resist cross craft in Sunday school the other week.
Backstory: since it was March break, there was no Sunday school planned, but there were a whole pile of kids! Thankfully, I have a handful of kids' Bible crafts committed to memory, and we were able to find tape, paint, and paper in the craft closet.
Even the older boys (who don't like crafting) liked this project. Apparently the paint was the thing that made it cool. Each of our boys made two of these!
Materials Needed
This cross craft is super simple to make, and the kids loved the paint! You can also do this with markers, crayons, or chalk and water.
What we used:
- masking tape
- paper or cardstock
- paint
- paintbrushes
How to Make a Tape Resist Cross Craft
This was a super simple craft that involved making a cross out of tape, painting over the whole page, and then peeling back the tape.
How we did it:
- Make a cross out of masking tape on your paper or cardstock.
- Paint over everything.
- Let the paint dry.
- Once the paint is dry, carefully peel back the tape (if you peel too fast and recklessly, you may rip the paper). You'll have a white cross on a painted background.
The kids really liked the opportunity to get creative here. They painted different coloured quadrants on their crosses. They mixed their own colours (one of these was supposed to be "cotton candy" - I think that was the blue-ish purple-y one).
We also changed up the single cross template and made three crosses, representing Jesus' crucifixion with two criminals, and I tried to capture (only partially successfully - art is not my calling!) the moment when darkness came over the whole land (Mark 15: 33-34).
This is a great cross craft to do with kids of all ages - works with Sunday School and also at home.
