Having some morning Bible verses to start your day is a great way to begin your day with God. Because let’s face it: the way that we start our day can have an enormous impact on the rest of it. Spending a few minutes in daily morning prayer, and meditating on Scripture, can help you to focus your mind and your heart on God, before all the responsibilities of the day rush in.

Ask yourself: do you start your day with prayer and Scripture, or with social media and to-do lists? While keeping in touch with friends and family and keeping up with work are both helpful and necessary goals, when you begin your day with worldly concerns instead of with God, you set a pattern for your whole day and your whole outlook on life. All those little habits that we have work together to shape who we are. Intentionally beginning your day with prayer and Scripture can help you to focus your mind on God, to learn to trust him more, and to solidify his reign in your life.

What I really love about Scripture prayers is that I am not just asking God for things that I have come up with on my own; I am praying his own words back to him. These morning prayer verses will help you get started with using Scripture for daily morning prayer. Find some Bible verses that you like, and then offer them back to God each morning in prayer. Write them as reminders on your heart. Recite them each morning. Use them as springboards to spend a moment or two (or more) in deeper prayer.

Morning Bible Verses of Praise

Scripture prayers of praise focus on who God is or what he has done. These are great morning Bible verses to start your day by focusing on God and his greatness.

“I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.” – Psalm 59:16

Gratitude is one of my favourite kinds of prayer, because it reminds me of all the blessings (big and small) that God has placed in my life. These morning Bible verses will help you start the day with gratitude and encourage you to remember how God has blessed you too.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”  Psalm 28:7

Morning Scripture Prayers for Trust in the Lord

Trusting in God when things aren’t going the way I had planned is one of the hardest tasks, I find. Praying for trust in God each morning can help remind us that God is in charge and that he knows what he is doing.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” – Psalm 143:8

Sometimes we wake up in the morning and need strength to face the day ahead. These morning prayer verses for strength are great reminders that God is there to strengthen us when we feel weak.

Sometimes I wish God would just give me the blueprint, or the ‘plan’, for my life: all of it, laid out, so that I know which choices are the right ones and where to go when. Unfortunately, we’re only ever offered guidance step by step, moment by moment. That’s why these morning Scripture prayers for guidance are great to add to your daily morning prayers. Each day, we can ask God for his guidance for that day, for that moment.

Sometimes we wake up in the morning and the thing that we need the most is rest, even after a full night’s sleep. These morning Scripture prayers for rest are great reminders that our souls find rest in God, and that it’s okay to lay down our responsibilities once in a while and rest in him.

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Jeremiah 6:16

Psalm 23 captures elements of all of the above Scriptures: praise, gratitude, trust, strength, guidance, hope, and rest. That’s why I’m including it here, as a final morning Bible verse to start your day. Psalm 23 reminds us that the Lord is indeed our shepherd, and that we can rely on him for all that we need. Commit this verse to memory, or pull it up on your phone when you need it, or hang it on your wall to remind yourself daily that God will give you rest, refreshment, guidance, and comfort.

“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.  He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,  he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.  Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.  You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.   1. What an awesome resource. I’ve been doing my prayer time and Bible reading plan later in the afternoon, but I still like to make sure I spend a few moments with God first thing in the morning. Thank you!

    1. Thanks Patti. Sometimes I get no more than a minute or two with God in the morning, but I find that even a minute or two makes a difference. I love hearing how others structure their Bible/prayer time too. (Afternoons for me are usually full of teaching and cleaning!)
