Normally, on Halloween, our family goes trick or treating (although we don’t allow the devilish, ghoulish costumes, and we always talk to our kids about how we can only find fulfilment in God and how we can be a light shining in the world).

We also typically participate in harvest festivals and Halloween ministry events at a few churches like a trunk or treat event. (Having a pumpkin carving party for families is a great way to teach a whole pile of kids the Pumpkin Prayer and talk about how God picks us out, cleans us up, and gives us new life.)

This collection of Christian Halloween ideas includes great activities for families with kids of all ages. (Older kids will enjoy the Halloween Candy Bible Verse Match Up Game and making pumpkin lanterns out of old glass jars.) You can do these Halloween activities at church, at school, at home, and in your neighbourhood. Here you’ll find Halloween games, crafts, coloring pages, object lessons, Bible lessons, and other fun Halloween activities that help kids talk about Jesus, the Gospel, and how we can be a bright, shiny light for God even on Halloween.

12 Christian Halloween Activities for Kids

These activities will help to instil Biblical lessons in kids, while having fun, being creative, and eating (not too much) candy. If you are looking for Christian Halloween ideas, try one or two of these out! They might become a new family or church tradition.

The Pumpkin Prayer – The Pumpkin Prayer is a great resource for pumpkin carving. Use this as a prayer before pumpkin carving, or discuss all the bits of Scripture as you are turning your pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern. The pumpkin prayer is perfect for church, Sunday school, the classroom, or at home with friends and family.

Halloween Bible Lessons – These Bible lessons are great for Sunday School, youth group, or at home with your own kids. Talk to kids about the origins of Halloween, taking the “scare” out of Halloween, what it means to be the light of Christ, and more.

Shine for Jesus coloring pages – Cute and simple coloring pages that can inspire discussion about being light in the darkness.

Jesus Shine in Me coloring page – Color a pumpkin and talk about how we can be the light of Jesus for others.

Do Not Fear coloring pages – Cute coloring pages to remind kids that they can turn to God when they are afraid, and that he will protect them.

Halloween Candy Bible Verse Match Up Game – This is a fun activity to help kids remember Bible verses. You can also use this to spark discussion about God’s promise to us, praising God, following Jesus, bearing good fruit….

Dry Bones Skeleton Craft – Teach Ezekiel 37:1-14 and how Jesus fulfills the prophecy of resurrection with this fun skeleton craft for the littles.

Christian Pumpkin Wind Sock – This wind sock is adorable. A great craft to small- to middle-school kids. Create a pumpkin wind sock with a paper plate, some construction paper, and streamers. Hang it somewhere for Halloween.

Pumpkin Object Lesson – Talk about how Christians are like pumpkins (Yes, we really are!) while you are carving your own jack-o-lantern. This lesson pairs great with The Pumpkin Patch Parable.

Pumpkin Lantern Craft – This one is probably my favorite. Turn an old glass jar into a pumpkin lantern and talk about how we can be a light in the darkness.

Candy Corn Crafts – Great for smaller kids. These candy corn crafts will get the kids engaged and teach them some things about God.

Gratitude Pumpkins – We’re doing gratitude pumpkins this year. You can do this two ways: get a pumpkin, place it on your front porch, and record all the things for which you are thankful each day.

You can also print out this pumpkin template (below), cut out some pumpkins from construction paper, write down things you are thankful for, and turn them into a garland.
